“Art that leads you back to yourself.”

EWA HEWELT (born in Poland, working in France) creates emotional, dreamlike portraits exploring the inner landscapes of identity, fragility and transformation. Her paintings weave colour, distortion and introspective observation to reveal what exists beneath the visible body — the tension between beauty and pain, presence and absence.
Returning to painting became an act of reclaiming herself — a return to truth, embodied through colour, form and emotion. Her work draws from sensitivity to colour, the structural curiosity of Leonardo da Vinci, and the psychological depth found in the vision of Zdzisław Beksiński.
Hewelt treats the human face as an emotional map. Light becomes a pulse; distortion becomes a form of honesty. Each portrait is less a likeness of a person and more a mirror — an intimate space where the viewer can recognise their own unseen emotions.
She works primarily in acrylic and oil on canvas.
