Lydia is more than a portrait — it is a life lived in quiet devotion. She spent her days caring for others, raising children that were not her own, and tending homes that were not hers. One of the women who helped raise my partner, Lydia’s steady, nurturing presence is captured here in deep blue tones.

Her gaze speaks of resilience, dignity in hardship, and love given freely. Today, she lives in Peru in a small room shared with her pregnant daughter — a bed for two, one closet, and holes in the floor. This painting is a tribute to her, and to the many women whose strength often goes unseen.
